The week of January 17 in review
This week Evan turned 6 years old. Yay! He commented on his age a couple of weeks ago by stating "I am so done with 5, I've been 5 all year!" :) He wanted to go to Chuck E Cheese for his birthday and he wanted to invite his friends Kyler, Jacob (he's 14 and Jonah's best friend), James and Gabe. Grandma and Grandpa came and James was able to come. We all had a great time. It was a holiday and several people in the ward (our church congregation) had children with a birthday that week also. It was quite fun to see so many people there. It was like a big party!
Jason and Brenden was spent the weekend and several days this week getting his pinewood derby car ready for the big race. Brenden designed the car to be a tank and I happened to find skin that wraps on the car that was camouflage. He was so excited. He was so sure that he was going to win. Since Jonah and Brenden have been involved in scouts, one or the other has won the race. So naturally he thought that would happen this time. But unfortunately it didn't happen. He was so sad. After the second race I tried to cheer him up that he might win the last one, and he commented "It's getting slower every time!!" Poor guy! Some how the weight or shape just wasn't right.
Brenden has needed a new dresser for quite some time and I had been looking on craigslist since we moved into our new house. And on Thursday I found the perfect dresser. It's made of oak with a hutch and a matching desk with hutch all 4 pieces for $140. I picked it up and with the help of the kids I got it up the stairs and in his room. On Saturday I got the organizing bug and got all three boys rooms organized and rearranged to a better traffic flow. I hadn't been able to organize the boys' rooms since we moved in and their stuff had been just stuffed in the closet willy nilly. I found some perfect containers for the legos and that started the process. Funny how one thing can spark your creativity and organization. After my cleaning spree I had tackled three boys' rooms, 1 family room, my walk-in closet, and my room. And all of this was accomplished in less than 24hours.
Jason and Jonah are spending time together bonding over basketball. Jason is co-coaching his team. They had their first game Friday night and they won. From what I was told Jonah did a great job. He made 2 of the 3 three point shots that he took. They have 4 more games in the next two weeks. They have another one on Monday night. Jonah has been spending a lot of time with Cody and Desmond and Jacob. He seems pretty happy as of late. And he was even more excited when I found his phone that's been lost for at least two months. Hallelujah! Buying a new phone is at least $50! I tried to replace Jonah's lost phone (a previous lost phone) with a Verizon prepaid and Verizon policy is that they won't let you activate it unless it has been activated as a prepaid for at least a year! What a stupid policy! Just another way to drain the consumer. (I wanted to have a face sticking out it's tongue but I couldn't figure it out!)
I went to Yoga with Lismarie on Wednesday. I was so excited to find that I had regained almost all of my mobility since my surgery in August. I had torn my superior labrum in my right shoulder and had laprascopic surgery and I was in a sling for 6 weeks and I was worried that I would never be able to have full flexibility. I am definitely in need of strength but I can tell that it will be OK. The other major change has been that I gave up the Chorale for the time being. With the way family life is I need to be involved with activities that are flexible and if there is a day that I can't go to something that I can do it later or the next day. And I couldn't be a very good choir participant if I can't be there to all the rehearsals. And they are 3 hours long starting at 6pm on my long work day. Some weeks I need a break. Or not to be out that late. Where one activity drops out a new one jumps in it's place. The boys want to take the karate class at the YMCA. It's an hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It gives me an excuse to use the elliptical!
That's a week in the life of the Holmstrom clan!

July has been a crazy ride.....
The month started out mildly slow and then spun out of control! We have been enjoying the long summer days with plenty of sunshine which is in great demand in this area. ;) We spent the 4th with Jason's family and enjoyed reuniting with Ryan and Megan and their kids. They have moved back to Washington, which we are very happy that they were able to do so. We also had a great time with the Wesenbergs the next weekend. We had an in door campout and spent time outside roasting marshmellows. Liz showed me how to make microwave smores. Thanks Liz! Although maybe that wasn't a good thing since now we can eat them anytime? I love that this house is so spacious that we could have 14 people here and not feel a bit crowded! We had a great time at Wild Waves that was sponsored by Naumann-Johnson orthodontics. We look forward to this every year since we can go for half the price since we get three free tickets for the children that are patients. It was a perfect day sunny and hot! The boys went with their friend Jacob and Linnea ran into Marissa there and palled around with her. That left Jason, Evan and I. We had a blast. We took him on all the slides. He was very apprehensive but what a trooper! At one point he was crying as we were climbing the stairs and we asked him if he wanted to go on the slide and through his tears he said he did. I couldn't help but laugh! He was that scared that he was crying but he still wanted to go on it! But he was well rewarded when he went down with Jason and loved every minute of it. The boys with Jacob spent most of their time in the wave pool. I only took Evan on one ride since we spent the bulk of the day on the slides and then free lunch with Naumann-Johnson orthodontics. The next week Jonah spent three days with Uncle Ryan at football camp. Ryan said that Jonah was the best at all the positions. I think he was very proud of his nephew! Meanwhile between all the activities we were able to lay sod then rip it up to dig trenches and put in a sprinkler system and then cover it up and re-lay the sod. It sounds easier on paper than in actuality! Jason has been amazing as he has done 99% of the work! Then (going on)two weeks ago I had my first car crash. It wasn't an injury involving kind of crash just heavy on the car repairs! It took 11 days to have my van repaired! Without the kindness of Lismarie and her mother letting us use her car I don't know what we would have done. We can't all fit in Jason's little car and there was no way we could all get to church! I am so glad that we have two cars and didn't realize how much we rely on it! Then Linnea had girls camp and Brenden had webolos camp. We had a wonderful time with Pam, Jim, and Jimmy when they stayed with us for a weekend! I am so glad that they have moved to Salem Oregon! Now we will be able to see them more often! We tried out the YMCA last week and I was amazed at all the activities they have available and it's all included in the membership! The kids are loving the time away from the house and the opportunity to do some swimming also! Too bad I didn't get to it earlier in the summer. They had several field trips that they could have gone on with the Y but we missed them all since we started so late in the month. Jonah is looking forward to the karate classes and Jonah and Brenden love the fit kids class that they have. I love the other classes they have available and the personal trainers that are included in the membership also! I have always had a hard time setting up a routine. Now I won't have that problem. Next month is looking to be just as busy but that's what life is like with kids right?!

New House!
Hello all!
It's been a long time since I have blogged but things have been a bit busy with us. In June we had an altercation with our neighbor that was started by a football that got over the fence and in this neighbor's backyard. Jason went over to retreive the football and the guy started yelling religious slurs and cuss words and threatened the lives of me and the kids. Jason called the police and they went to talk to him but since there was nobody around the cop said there was nothing he could do. That night after discussing the situation we decided that we needed to move somewhere where we could live without fear of distruction of property or worry of physical threat. Within the week we found property and put an offer on it. Then came the hard part, all the paperwork for the loan and the permits. We decided on a house plan from Hiline homes. It's almost a 1000 sq. ft more than the house we have now with 41/2 acres of land. Definately more space than what we have now. It's exciting to know that each kid will have their own room and that it will have twice the size of kitchen we have now! And a 5piece bath, yay!!!! Luckily it won't be much more of a house payment than we have now. If you need a place to crash during a vacation don't hesitate to call, there will be plenty of room!
